As a general education teacher, I was responsible for teaching gifted students and was unsure how to reach them. After completing a Master's program in gifted education, I was not only able to teach my gifted students more effectively, but was able to differentiate for ALL students in my class more effectively. I know from many years of experience, that my courses in gifted education simply made me a better teacher.

Perhaps, there needs to be incentive created for teachers to get certified, or have completed certain coursework in Gifted Education. Perhaps if this issue was brought to teacher's union representatives, they could make the case on behalf of teachers. Perhaps if teachers are being compensated for being able to teach gifted students, they would be more likely to take those courses? Just seems there should be advocacy on the side of the parents who are interested in their children being educated in accordance with their abilities, and advocacy on behalf of the hard working teachers by their union reps in support of teachers obtaining certification or coursework in Gifted Education.
