Who are we?
We are a group of New Jersey educators, parents and students who believe that teacher education is essential to providing excellent gifted education. We have joined together in an effort to bring an endorsement in gifted education to New Jersey.
Why an endorsement?
New Jersey currently requires endorsements in many specific teaching areas that go beyond a general education certificate. We are seeking an endorsement in Gifted Education to insure that the individuals who are responsible for educating gifted and advanced students understand the unique academic and social-emotional characteristics and needs of this population and possess the pedagogical knowledge and skills necessary for optimal student growth.
Of course, we understand that many New Jersey educators have been working with this population for many years, and have acquired the pedagogical knowledge and skills through their teaching experience. For some practicing gifted education teachers, we believe that it would be appropriate to grant the certificate to those educators who have been working with gifted students for three years or more.
